There can be few players who would argue with the fact that a good Precision Bass is all the bass you’ll ever really need. If there is one bass that can pretty much do it all and have you covered in most genre’s then it is a P Bass.
This one dates from 1972 and doesn’t disappoint. The original grey bottom split pick-up delivers the classic warm, woody and punchy Precision Bass tone that we all know and love. The neck profile is a nice comfortable medium C with a gentle taper and topped with a waxy rosewood board, making for a smooth, comfortable playing experience. Being from the early 70’s this one also features an attractive deep red tortoiseshell guard which gives it a nice vintage P Bass look.
The overall condition is excellent and very clean for a 50 year old instrument. There are a number of small nicks to be expected mainly on the edges of the body. There is a larger ding on the lower edge of the body and a scratch on the back of the body. Some of the finish has worn along the top side of the headstock by the tuners. But none of this detracts from the overall excellent condition.
This example is all original with the exception of the chrome pick up cover which is a recent repro (the bridge cover is original) and the output jack socket which is a correct Switchcraft replacement – the original socket is in the case. It blacklights perfectly with no issues.
Precision Basses, Telecasters, 4 bolt Stratocasters and Jazz Basses from the early 70’s are becoming the next rising stars of the vintage market. Generally these models from this period offer the same tone, playability and looks as their more expensive CBS late 60’s relatives and bridge the gap before the drop in standards seen in a lot of the mid to late 70’s Fenders.
If you’re looking for an affordable vintage P Bass then here’s a great example. Comes with a newer hard shell case.
