The Les Paul Heritage 80 series was Gibson’s first attempt at making a Les Paul Standard that was close to the legendary Sunburst 1958-60 Les Paul specifications. While not completely accurate to vintage ‘burst specs the Heritage 80 series was none the less the closest thing with a Gibson logo that players could get to a ‘58-60 Les Paul Standard at the time.

The fact that these guitars are over 40 years old means that they are now vintage guitars themselves, and are older now than the original ’58-60 Les Paul Standards, that they pay homage to, were when these guitars were originally issued.

Made between 1980-82, this example dates from the first year of production and is numbered 0641. This guitar really is in exceptional shape for its age and is in near mint condition. Upon close inspection there are just a handful of very light surface scratches and a couple of minor nicks, as well as some light tarnishing to the nickel plated hardware, otherwise it looks just like it did on the day it left the factory.

The heritage cherry sunburst finish is rich and deep and the maple top has a subtle flame that has just the right amount of curl, blister and mineral streaks to give it a very authentic vintage ‘burst look. This one also has a great top carve with a very nice ‘dish’ which combined with the subtle flame and deep cherry sunburst makes for a very good looking Les Paul.

The neck has a very comfortable 50’s chunky C profile and is topped with a nice dark rosewood board with medium jumbo frets and inlays which look closer to the 50’s cellulose nitrate inlays than many inlays from this era.

All electronics are totally original and untouched. This example comes with a pair of highly regarded Tim Shaw PAFs, which sound fantastic in all three positions either clean or overdriven. Classic Les Paul tone and sustain for days - you could go out for a bite and this one would still be playing…

A great collectors grade example of what is becoming a sought after guitar. Comes with its original ‘chainsaw’ Gibson Protector case.
