Made in the Bozeman, Montana factory during what many consider a real sweet spot for modern Gibson acoustics, this 1992 Gibson J-200 is a fine example of the kind of quality the Bozeman shop was producing in the early ‘90s. Solid woods throughout, a beautifully figured maple back and sides, and a classic natural finish that still looks fantastic over 30 years on. Built during the Ren Ferguson era, these early ‘90s J-200s are fast becoming sought-after for their excellent craftsmanship and tonal balance.
It has a big, bold voice as you'd expect—plenty of low-end thump, crisp highs, and that lovely shimmering midrange that makes these guitars so good for strumming, flatpicking, or singer-songwriter work. Whether you’re using it to track in the studio or lead a band from the front of the stage, it’s got the projection and tone to carry it off.
This one is in very good overall condition for its age. There is the right amount of natural play wear and lacquer checking to give it an authentic vintage vibe along with a handful of small dings and surface scratches. The frets have plenty of life left, and the action is spot on for most players. The pickguard has aged with some of the original flower motif being worn off due to natural play wear, adding to the vintage vibe.
Will make a great addition to any studio or live arsenal. Loads of character, projection and big tone.
Comes with the original brown Gibson branded hardshell case with pink plush interior and shroud. One latch has broken and the handle has been repaired but the case is fully functional and in overall good condition with many years life left in it.
