The guitar that started the whole vintage guitar market was arguably the original sunburst 1958-1960 Gibson Les Paul Standard, or 'Bursts as they are now more widely known. 1959 is regarded as the magic year when all the stars aligned in terms of specs, craftsmanship and materials used.

Here is a Gibson Custom Shop re-creation of a 1959 spec Les Paul Standard. This particular example dates to 2018 and so includes all of the 'true historic' hardware and plastics (parts that were previously only available on the premium True Historic range which was discontinued in 2017 but parts which were then subsequently made available on the standard Historic range at no extra cost) along with other period correct features such as the long neck tenon, hide glue construction, correct aniline dye and correct truss rod configuration. These R9's from 2017 onwards are amongst the most historically accurate reissues that the Gibson Custom Shop has so far produced.

The maple top on this one is stunning and has a fairly tight curly flame that really pops and moves when the light hits it. It is difficult to do it full justice in pictures but it has a an authentic looking top reminiscent of some of the best looking vintage bursts such as 'Sandy' and the 'Moon Burst'. It's a killer looking top which is perfectly set off with the Iced Tea finish.

The overall condition is near mint with the exception of a small chip on the lower bout by the edge of the binding - see pictures. The aniline dye on the back of the guitar has faded to a rust colour like a lot of original bursts have done over the years.

It plays and sounds just as good as it looks thanks to, what many consider, the perfect '59 neck profile, the resonance of the mahogany body and neck construction and maple top, combined with a pair of Custombucker pick-ups. The tone and playability is everything you'd expect from a top quality Gibson Custom Shop reissue of this legendary guitar with bags of natural sustain.

Comes with the original brown 5 latch Lifton reissue case, the COA, and all of the hang tags and case candy.
