This 1959 example features what many consider to be the perfect Gibson neck profile neck. It's chunky but not too big and sits somewhere between the big fat necks of '58 and the slimmer necks that appeared during 1960. It's a fairly typical '59 profile that's comfortable to play with fast action and the easy upper fret access that these double cutaway Juniors are known for.

The P-90 pick-up coupled with the slab mahogany body sounds big and powerful, as you’d expect, with loads of natural sustain. The volume and tone controls offer a wide range of tones, but it’s when it’s cranked with the volume on 10 and the tone anywhere between 5-10 that it really shines, like all good Juniors. The tone can range from big and growly to clean and warm and is responsive and articulate in all settings.

The overall condition is good with some natural playing wear, a number of nicks and dings and light buckle rash, along with some attractive lacquer checking. Just what you’d expect of a vintage instrument from the golden era, that’s been well played but looked after. The original cherry finish has faded back to a rust colour on the top but retains more of the red dye on the back.

There are no breaks and all the electrics are original with undisturbed solder. The upper strap button has been relocated to the edge of the upper horn and the original strap button hole on back of the heel has been filled and touched up with correct aniline dye and nitro, along with a second small strap button hole on the back of the upper cutaway - see pictures. The 15th fret inlay has at some point fallen out and has been replaced by a repro inlay.

The previous owner had fitted a set of aged Kluson repro tuners for day to day use but the original tuners are now back on the guitar with the repros in the case should you want to swap them back and preserve the originals. The original tuners are working perfectly but the D and G pegs are slightly bent, which is a common occurrence. The repros are a straight replacement and no additional holes have been drilled.

If you've been looking for a quintessential double cutaway Les Paul Junior with loads of natural mojo then look no further. This one ticks all the right boxes.

Comes in a tough Hiscox hard shell case.
