The Fender Stratocaster needs no introduction, along with the Gibson Les Paul the Strat is without question one of the most iconic guitars of the 20th Century.
This stunning Custom Shop example is based on the highly regarded 1963 specifications but with a few modern tweaks, such as the 9.5in fretboard radius, 5 way pick up selector and Vintage Modified #1 wiring - Volume, Tone 1 (Neck/Middle Pickups), Tone 2 (Bridge Pickup). All in all these small changes make this reissue an even more versatile guitar, but with the looks, feel and tone of a vintage early 60’s Stratocaster.
The Daphne Blue finish (one of the rarest and most sought after of the original vintage Fender Custom Colours) is given the ‘Closet Classic’ treatment. There is some light lacquer checking and a slightly dulled patina, which combined with the mild discoloration of plastic parts and slight oxidation of metal hardware gives the guitar the appearance of a vintage instrument that has spent most of its life inside the case.
The medium C profile neck is true to 63 specs being slightly more chunky than most 60’s profiles, and offers the type of playing comfort that makes original 63 Strats so desirable. The set of Custom Shop Fat 60s Strat pickups deliver a classic, crisp Stratocaster tone with plenty of articulation. These feature Alnico 2 magnets and are slightly overwound and produce a warm mid range with a low end punch and top end clarity.
Presently the guitar is fitted with a period correct ‘mint’ pick guard but also comes with a parchment white guard for a different look. Other specs include a quarter sawn maple neck topped with AAA rosewood veneer board, ‘clay’ dots with correct narrow 12th fret spacing, 2 piece alder body, Fender/Gotoh vintage-style ‘Kluson’ tuners, American Vintage synchronized bridge, 6105 fret wire, bone nut and correct 63 Fender decal with 3 patent numbers.
There is a very small nick on the side of the neck next to the 7th fret side dot and the paint has chipped slightly under the upper strap button (see pictures for both), but otherwise the guitar is in mint condition.
A great sounding and playing Strat in a very desirable Custom Colour. Comes with the original brown Tolex G&G case, Certificate Of Authenticity and case candy.
